A very effective treatment for sun damage has appeared. It uses Levulan, a solution of 20% aminolevulanic acid which, when applied to the skin greatly enhances the effects of laser/light therapy for sundamage (wrinkles, blotchiness, broken veins and precancers) as well as acne and rosacea.
Super Photorejuvenation: Standard photorejuvenation using IPL can be boosted with Levulan and superior results obtained in less than half the number of treatments. The risk of skin cancer seems to be greatly reduced and the texture, color and youthfulness of the skin restored. The technique is simple. The area to be rejuvenated (face, neck, chest, hands are the most treated areas) is cleansed with the Clarisonic Cleansing Brush and a microdermabrasion is performed. Levulan is then applied. The solution is left on for one hour then rinsed and the normal IPL treatment is done. A few minutes of exposure to blue light (Blu U) completes the treatment. The light activates the Levulan. A sunburn like reaction results and within a few days you will see healthier skin. The cosmetic improvement continues for weeks after just one treatment although two treatments, one month apart, are recommended. Just one treatment a year maintains the beautiful new complexion. (Severe sundamage and precancers may require additional treatments to attain excellent results).
Super Acne Treatment: We have long looked for better ways to treat acne. Mild, moderate and severe cystic acne respond to PDT often without using traditional oral medications. In severe cystic acne this treatment may even give results equal to Accutane. The treatment is similar to the Super Photorejuvenation technique but only the Blu U is used to activate the Levulan when teens are treated. When adult acne is treated and sundamage is also present the use of IPL and Blu U helps to correct both problems. An added benefit is a noticeable improvement in acne scarring for both the teen and the adult.
